Who is God

Posted on May 29th, 2007 by Spirit Eagle : No trails to follow in the sky Spirit Eagle
Did you think I really would make some profoundly academic statement of theology - knowlege about God / the Sacred / whatever you want to name Who IS?  Perhaps another day.  For now, for my life, this is my statement, my personal theology, if it needs such a $5 word.  The rest can wait.
David and new granddaughter Leara

WHO is GOD?

Who is God?
How does one know Who this is making the sun to shine?
Where does one go to see the face of God
and stand within the power named as God?
And when, perhaps, that place is found,
how does one know this is God?

Look up, into the sky and see the stars forever
until the sight no longer reaches to where
the novas burst in glory making new worlds.
There is God in creative mystery, unearthly beauty.

Watch an eagle soar in majestic flight above the loftiness
of the mountain home where is the hidden aerie;
see the power of wings outspread catching thermals,
riding on the updrafts, circling higher still.
This is, so say our native brothers, bird closest to Great Spirit.

Gently tread the desert floor and up steep escarpments,
watch where the feet step among the gilly flowers,
those five-petaled miniature miracles of beauty,
white to lavendar dotted in perfect design
with burgundy...speaking God's perfection.

Wander high above the canyons on shadowed mountain trails
to where the yuccas grow in vast array of the progression
from life to death, then resurrection and life anew.
Watch the measured, forceful growth of stalk bearing
"Christ's Candle", standing high above one's head
in glory which speaks God's variety.

And everywhere see that not one stalk or seed is wasted
in this world that proclaims God's generosity;
Even fallen trees provide nursery for new seedlings
and hidden crannies for life to dwell and burgeon forth.

Study fully and in silence the tree denuded of her verdancy
by fire, limbs sharpened, blackened, nearly dead;
and see along the shadowed branches new life beginning
until bright green growth magically covers anew
and laughs in joy that is God's answer to destructive force.

Walk with arms outspread in the mist and fog, in gentle silence
and know this is God's refreshing of a desert world;
feel the fingers trail along the cheek, caressing fog;
know this is God caressing gently, calling in the stillness.

Look into the face of one with whom the spirit meets beyond all time
and see loving acceptance, the sharing of one's soul
with care, without demand, asking only that all be well
in the life, the soul of the other standing there.
This is gift of God, acceptance for one's self alone.

Watch a mother's hands at work for home and children,
blessing each with tasks, with weary chores
completed with patience and generous spirit;
all she seeks is her children's full realization
of the potentiality placed in each by God.
Know that the mother is God at work.

See the father steadying the brand-new bicycle as young one
struggles to stay and ride around the block, all grown;
watch him at his desk half the night, giving his heart
for wife and children through the life of work.
This is "Abba", loving Daddy God.

Each of these is part of God, yet God none of them may be;
The Presence, this Being whom one would name
can not be limited by words spoken, written or unsaid;
for there is no language known to articulate,
that God is more than all of these.
Yet there is one word so carelessly applied to much
of human relationship serving to tell who God is.
Listen in the stillness of the heart, open the soul to Spirit
and know that more than all, beyond all of eternity,
God is simply
Love.

Absolutely beautiful!  I'm just thankful that I can understand what you're saying a little bit.  I remember a time in my life when I would not have had the slightest notion.  Thank you for teaching us!

Martha,
Thank you for reminding me how very blest I am.  I don't remember a time in my life when I have not been aware of the Presence of the Sacred in and around me, beyond and with me.  I probably have little clue how it could be otherwise.  I truly appreciate your visit and comments.

Dear Aley,
If we cannot see God in those around us, where will we ever see?  Each of us carries within that Sacredness.  Thank you so much.
